1. COVID-19 Vaccination and Testing

During the pandemic, Google Maps, just like anybody else, made some changes (Opens in a new window). Open Google Maps and search for “covid testing near me” to see a list of locations that conduct testing and contact information and hours. You may also type in “vaccine” to find out where you can get vaccinated, and many sites allow you to arrange an appointment with just one click. By touching the layers symbol at the top right of Maps and selecting COVID-19 Info, you can also view the number of COVID-19 instances near you and if they are increasing or decreasing.

2. Insider Information

Not only are maps useful in the great outdoors. Locate the place in Maps, click on it, and then scroll to Directory to see what’s within malls, airports, and other large structures. You’ll never wonder where the nearest Cinnabon is again.

3. Use Google Maps to plot multiple locations

Traveling by car is rarely about just getting from point A to point B. A-to-café-to-library-to-Joe’s-house-to-B is the most typical path. Google, fortunately, provides for real-time journey planning. In the Google Maps mobile app, enter your starting point and destination, then tap the three dots in the top-right corner to add more destinations. A pop-over menu will appear, with the option to “Add stop,” which you can use to create a route with multiple stops. You’ll be able to move stations about your schedule as well. (Please note that this does not work on public transit.)

4. Change the Car Icon

If you’re driving, Google’s iOS and Android apps allow you to choose which automobile appears in your navigation. Plug in your destination and start driving directions in the app. A pop-up menu with several car symbol selections will appear when you tap the icon that shows your present location: a sedan, a pickup truck, or an SUV.

5. ‘Where am I going, Google?’

You don’t want to take your eyes off the road to engage with Maps while driving.  You don’t have to with the Google Maps Android app’s “OK Google” voice commands(Opens in a new window). If you’re running short on gas, for example, say “OK Google, find gas stations,” and it will display gas stations on a map (which you may look at when you’ve come to a red light or pulled over). “What’s my next turn,” “What’s my ETA,” and “How’s traffic ahead?” are examples of questions you can ask. Simply install Google Assistant on your Android device and you’re ready to go. On iOS (seen above), hit the microphone icon in the top right corner to ask your queries with your voice.

6. Google Maps offline

Today, Maps is most useful on mobile devices, which poses a problem: you may be in an area with limited (or, gasp, non-existent) reception when you need it the most. Google Maps has an offline mode that can help you out. Enter an address or a location, then slide up from the bottom of the screen to the menu, hit the ellipsis button, and select Download offline map. The map in question will be saved if there is sufficient capacity on your device. To retrieve it later, go to your avatar > Offline maps, and then go to the downloaded section to gain information about local businesses and turn-by-turn directions.

7. Google Maps find the distance

You can also use the right-click tool to calculate the distance between any two spots on Earth. Choose “Measure distance” to drop a point (represented by a white dot with a bold black line), then click anyplace else on the map to determine the distance between the points. Continue to click to add more points to the map. In the main card, the entire trip distance will be determined.

8. Go shopping for groceries

You can purchase online, get status updates on your order, share your ETA while you’re on your way to pick it up and check in using Google Maps once you’ve arrived if you shop at Kroger or any of their other grocery stores(Opens in a new window). Simply click the link in the email to add your purchase to Google Maps, then open the app to see all of the details.
